I wanted to share something that has been on my heart the last few days. If you follow me on Snapchat (sdawson11), you’ve already heard my little ramblings about this, but it won’t hurt to hear it again. We’ve all been in the boat of begging, even pleading with God to make our dreams come true. God, open that door. God, if You won’t open a door, please open a window. What do we get in return? “God will give you the desires of your heart.” While I wholeheartedly believe when our hearts are in tune with the Lord’s our desires become His desires, I also believe that sometimes we expect things from Him. I’m so guilty of seeing my relationship with Christ in a works-based, attitude-contingent way. If I love my neighbor and try not to cuss, God will give me what I want. God wants to shower you with lavish blessings, the “extras” if you will, but He is also your caretaker. His responsibility is supplying you with what you need. I’ve decided to take my selfish ambitions and put them away and ask Him for peace and grace and understanding while He works on what I need. It’s frustrating and makes me questions why He’s placed dreams in my heart if they may never come to fruition. I guess that’s when I have to step back and remember I’m not supposed to know or even understand the reasons why He does things. His ways are mighty, that much I do know, and will cling to.
